I am honored to announce that I have been asked to be a guest at GeekGirlCon 2012.  I will be speaking about the impact of domestic violence in our society and what 'Everyday Heroes' can do to help bring an end to this silent and vicious crime. 

 

'GeekGirlCon is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting awareness of and celebrating the contribution and involvement of women in all aspects of the sciences, science fiction, comics, gaming and related Geek culture through conventions and events that emphasize both historic and ongoing contribution and influence of women in this culture.' 

 

Panel Description: Join Seattle's superhero Purple Reign in a discussion about stopping crime, domestic abuse, and bullying. In this informal and conversational Q&A  Purple will share her personal survivor story and escape from an abusive relationship.  She'll also share some funny stories including how she met her partner, Phoenix Jones and of their early crime fighting days starting the Rain City Superhero Movement.  Find out why they chose to use the symbol of a superhero in their community activism. 

Her passion towards stopping crime led her from the streets to a personal level when she started a nonprofit that raises resources and funds for victims of domestic violence.  The Purple Reign Campaign encourages Everyday Heroes to take a stand and get involved.  Purple speaks at schools about bullying, visits shelters to connect with victims of abuse, and hits the streets to actively prevent crime.  She will share useful tools and resources that regular community members can safely use to get involved and join in on these efforts.  Its time to STOP minding our own business, will you accept Purple's challenge?
 
I will also talk about being the only female in an all male crime fighting movement known as the Rain City Superheroes, founded by my crime fighting partner Phoenix Jones.  As Seattle's 'Shero' I take great responsibility and pride in representing women and standing up for women, men, and children.  Victims of violent crime have someone they can count on, whether they have suffered in the privacy of their own homes or out on the public streets.  There are many ways for people of all skill sets to actively participate in crime prevention and it is my goal to see bystanders become 'Everyday Heroes'.
